To Tenerife We Go, How's The Food?
Updated: Mar 3, 2019
Guys, this is my first blog post so I hope you’ll stick with me.
At the moment we are in sunny Tenerife (Canary Islands). It’s my first time here and I’m so glad we came, it was time to take a break from the cold and dark that #Sweden is currently offering up.
We have rented a house on the South side of #Tenerife and the kids have been enjoying the pool. It was a tad chilly at first and they were reluctant to get in but now they love jumping in from the side, yelling “1, 2, 3!” and plunging in together. It’s great to see them having fun outside without their giant snowsuits and winter gloves which they have sported everyday since about October.
One challenge that #traveling tends to bring up is food. Picking food for a 4 year old and a 2 year old is tricky no matter what. However, as the kids are #vegan it makes it a little more challenging finding things that they will eat, especially when we are away from home. The fare is of course not the same in Tenerife as it is in Sweden and where our rental house is located there are, unfortunately for us, hardly any vegan friendly eateries. We decided that #cooking at our house on this trip was going to be the way to go! Recreating foods that the #kids enjoy at home has been a better option than sitting in restaurants with hangry kids picking through menus, attempting to customize dishes. There will be a day when the kids get a bit older and can stand the wait in restaurants...looking forward to it, Juliette and Fletcher! In the meantime we are cooking at our home base during the majority of our trip and are all about those nutrient rich #smoothies and #smoothiebowls. The current favorites are cinnamon, banana, oatmeal, spinach “milk” with a dollop of peanut butter or berry smoothie bowls with frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, banana, frozen cauliflower and a dash of oat milk.
So traveling on a long holiday with kids? The grocery store is your friend. It's maybe not as glamorous as eating out every night but it sure makes meal times easier and takes that panic out of checking menu after menu looking for SOMETHING that the kids will eat. Plus, we get to make sure that the kids are still eating tasty and nutritious meals.
until next time,
